Alaa is the Head of Strategy & Innovation at Vodafone Egypt. He set up the Innovation unit at Vodafone in 2010, with the aim of diversifying the company’s service portfolio into adjacent markets.
Alaa is an active player in Egypt’s innovation & entrepreneurship communities, providing mentorship for start-ups at ‘Flat6labs Accelerator’. He actively judges on different innovation panels, including Google’s Ebda2 competition.
Alaa’s 18-year career has included working as a business owner, TV presenter, manager, trainer and engineer.
In his 13 years at Vodafone, he has been responsible for leading many company-wide transformation programmes including: the introduction of the company’s first CRM system ‘Siebel’, Vodafone’s Cultural Programme ‘The Vodafone Way’; the setup of Vodafone’s gated compounds joint venture ‘Tevotech’; and the formulation of the company’s ‘1+2’ 3-year corporate strategy. He has also contributed to various global Vodafone initiatives; including his enrollment in the global ‘Inspire’ leadership programme; through which he contributed to the definition of the global Diversity & Inclusion programme. He has also worked in Ghana, as a member of Vodafone’s launch team that setup Vodafone’s post-acquisition operations of Vodafone Ghana in 2009.
Alaa holds an MBA Degree from Nile University & IESE Business School, a Masters Degree in IT from Nottingham University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Cairo University.
