Crisis statement: 14 million cars are on the roads of Cairo every day and 70% carry only 1-2 persons per car. As the Cairo population grows together with the number of cars, there is an increased need for efficient means to share rides whether it is public transportation, micro buses, taxis or even personal vehicles. The goal of shared rides is to reduce the costs of travel (cost of petrol etc.) as well as the number of vehicles on the road or at least to curb the growth in the coming years. In order for shared rides and car-pooling to work people need to plan trips ahead of time and coordinate with people they are willing to travel with. This approach is being taken in other countries and works best when people have the same or similar destinations, and when they can coordinate travel with people they trust.
